SOCW 5371. Advanced Multicultural Practice I. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).

This course will expand student’s knowledge of critical analysis and holistic application of clinical practice skills building from the foundation level practice-based courses (SOCW 5327 & SOCW 5334), specifically when working with individuals. Through the use of evidence based theoretical models students will learn how to integrate the knowledge of culture in practice and effectively implement interventions when working with diverse populations who have historically experienced discrimination and oppression. Various historical and current cultural perspectives are provided to enhance student’s personal and professional awareness and critical holistic application of multicultural practice. Holistic refers to capturing a biological, cultural, psychological, social, and spiritual framework.
