DANC 1211. Ballet 1. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

Introduction to the principles, techniques, and vocabulary of classical ballet. Students learn placement, flexibility, strength and coordination.

DANC 1310. Dance Theory. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).

This course introduces students to the art and formal ideologies of contemporary dance through lecture, discussion, demonstration and participation. Includes philosophies, historical overviews of each genre, and the study of vocational roles in dance.

DANC 2221. Jazz 1. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

This course will develop and expand the technical skills needed for jazz dance. Students will learn basic skills and techniques, stretching, toning and choreography.

DANC 2231. Modern Dance I. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

Introduction to the principles, techniques, and vocabulary of Contemporary Modern Dance. Space, time and energy will be explored as elements of movement. There will be an underlying emphasis on alignment, strength, flexibility and sound movement patterns.

DANC 2241. Tap I. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

Introduction to the study of basic steps, vocabulary and rhythms of Tap Dance.

DANC 2311. Ballet 2. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 3 Hours).

Expansion of the principles, techniques and vocabulary of classical ballet. Students continue to develop technique as they gain flexibility, strength and coordination. Prerequisite: DANC 1211.

DANC 2320. Dance History. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).

Dance history from ancient times to the present. The course looks at diversity of dance practices across cultures, concert stage, vernacular settings, and screen media. Through the study of dance's history, aesthetic elements, and communicative power, students become familiar with dance as a vital form of artistic expression and creation throughout time and space.

DANC 2376. Choreography I. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 2 Hours, Lab: 1 Hour).

An introduction to the practical application of basic principles and skills of dance making.

DANC 3271. Musical Theatre Dance I. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

This course is a dance class as it pertains to musical theatre styles and performance. Specific styles may vary by semester. Participation in college theatre production is encouraged. Lab fee: $2.

DANC 3272. Musical Theatre Dance II. 2 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 2 Hours).

This course is the study of dance, movement, and staging for musical theatre. It includes strategies for learning and performing dance combinations as they occur in a professional dance audition. Students will continue to develop fundamental dance technique and apply it to musical theatre dance and culminates in student choreographed/staged works. Lab fee: $2.

DANC 3321. Jazz 2. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 3 Hours).

A continuation of jazz dance skills learned at the beginner level with an increase in the level of difficulty. Focusing on an awareness of the broader theories of jazz dance. Attention is given to expanding the vocabulary and challenge technical abilities by creating designs in space through body positions and movements. Prerequisite: DANC 2221.

DANC 3331. Modern Dance II. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 3 Hours).

This course continues the guided exploration and development of an artistic and creative movement practice related to contemporary modern dance. Throughout this class, you will study principles, movement activities and language common to a variety of modern dance styles.

DANC 3341. Tap II. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 3 Hours).

A continuation of tap dance skilled learned at the beginner level with an increase in the level of difficulty. Focusing on vocabulary, rhythmic patterns and style while developing dexterity, musicality and basic performance skills.

DANC 3376. Choreography II. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 2 Hours, Lab: 1 Hour).

An exploration of skills and techniques used to hone choreographic style and process in the development of duet and small group composition.

DANC 4085. Dance Seminar. 1-3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 1-3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).

Content varies according to the needs of students and opportunities available. When topic varies, course may be repeated for credit.

DANC 4086. Dance Problems. 1-6 Credit Hours (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 1-6 Hours).

A course featuring independent study in Dance. Research and discussion under personal direction of an instructor. Topics will vary according to student need.
