SPLP 5086. Problems in Speech-Language Pathology. 1-6 Credit Hours (Lecture: 1-6 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Independent reading and research on various speech-language pathology topics. Entry into the course will be arranged by the faculty member with permission from the Communications Disorders Program Director and/or the Department Head. Variable credit from 1 - 6 hours. Prerequisite: Admission to Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5090. Special Topics. 1-6 Credit Hours (Lecture: 1-6 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Intensive studies on current trends and issues related to professional practice in the field of speech-language pathology. May be repeated for credit when topics vary. 1 - 6 credit hours, dependent upon topic. Prerequisite: Admission to Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5091. Clinical Practicum in Speech-Language Pathology. 1-6 Credit Hours (Lecture: 1-6 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
This practicum experience provides students with opportunities to earn the 400 supervised clinical clock hours required by ASHA for clinical certification. The course will cover topics such as assessment, intervention, and counseling in the field of speech-language pathology. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science program in Speech-Language Pathology.
SPLP 5101. Clinical Methods in Speech-Language Pathology. 1 Credit Hour (Lecture: 0 Hours, Lab: 1 Hour).
This course will help students transfer academic concepts to clinical settings. Topics may include assessment (e.g., administration, interpretation, and application), clinical writing, and principles of practice in different clinical settings. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5301. Adult Neurogenic Disorders: Assessment and Interventions. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn identification, prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies appropriate for adults with neurogenic communication disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5302. Child Language Disorders: Assessment and Interventions. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies for children with language disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5303. Fluency Disorders. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to fluency disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5304. Dysphagia. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to dysphagia in adults and children. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5305. Voice Disorders. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to voice disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5306. Speech Sound Disorders. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to speech sound disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5307. Cultural and Linguistic Variability in Speech-Language Pathology. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will integrate culture and linguistic variability into the prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention of speech-language pathology. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5309. Intellectual Disabilities, Complex Communication Needs, Autism, and AAC. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to Intellectual Disabilities, Complex Communication Needs, Autism, and AAC. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5310. Motor Speech Disorders. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to motor speech disorders. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5311. Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn about professional issues in speech-language pathology with content such as the scope of practice, code of ethics, interprofessional collaboration and communication, and modes of service delivery covered in the course. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5312. School-Based Speech-Language Pathology. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn about the methods and principles of practice as a school-based SLP. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5313. Medical Speech-Language Pathology. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
This course will cover topics related to practice as a speech-language pathologist in a medical setting. Pertinent terminology, disorders encountered in a medical setting, assessment procedures, and intervention procedures will be addressed. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5314. Rural Speech-Language Pathology. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
This course will cover topics related to practice as a speech-language pathologist in a rural setting. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5315. Craniofacial Anomalies. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Students will learn prevention, identification, assessment, and intervention strategies related to craniofacial anomalies. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5316. Tracheostomies & Ventilators. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Identify, prevent, assess, and learn intervention strategies related to tracheostomies & ventilators. Determine the etiology, characteristics, and psychological characteristics of tracheostomies & ventilators. Understand how the person's culture, linguistic background, and family preferences may impact practice related to tracheostomies & ventilators. Demonstrate knowledge of tracheostomies & ventilators. Demonstrate an understanding of ethical and interprofessional practice related to tracheostomies & ventilators. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program.
SPLP 5398. Research Methods. 3 Credit Hours (Lecture: 3 Hours, Lab: 0 Hours).
Principles of research methods in speech-language pathology; Learn to apply research concepts and methods to problems in speech-language pathology; sampling procedures, research analysis, research designs, statistical descriptions and inference, and research reports.
